What have you achieved today, this week, this year…?

What have you achieved this year?

What have you achieved today, this week, this month, this year, throughout your life?

This is a question I ask a lot in my coaching practice.  And people often struggle to answer the question.I would like to encourage you to really focus on what you’ve achieved this year.

I find most people don’t really acknowledge their achievements and then often feel disappointed with their life.  Yet when I get them to really think about what they’ve already achieved in their life, a shift starts to happen and they soon start to believe in their ability to achieve goals again.

What have you achieved?

I would like to encourage you to really focus on what you’ve achieved so far in your life.

When we focus on our achievements, we naturally become a match to achieve more and more of the things we want.

Tony Robbins says

“People who succeed have momentum. The more they succeed, the more they want to succeed, and the more they find a way to succeed. Similarly, when someone is failing, the tendency is to get on a downward spiral that can even become a self-fulfilling prophecy.”

When you focus on your achievements you create a success momentum.

I encourage you to get into the habit of using an achievements journal. Any notebook works or you can use a page per view diary and record your achievements as you go through the year.

When you have it written down, you have a reminder that will keep you motivated.  For example, you may be struggling to achieve a certain goal and you may have feelings of frustration, or be thinking along the lines of “I can’t do this!”

If you have an achievements journal in place and can look through your many achievements, this will give you a real motivation boost.  It will help to shift your thoughts more to “I’ve already achieved all of these things, so of course I can achieve this goal too.”

Add stepping-stone achievements

Stepping stones are small goals within a bigger goal.  So let’s say you want to start a blog and be able to generate an income of over £2000 a month.  That would be your big goal.

Your stepping stones achievements might be something like this…

  • Buy domain name
  • Set up WordPress blog
  • Writing your first blog post
  • Writing your first 50 blog posts
  • Making your first £100 from your blog
  • Making your first £1000 per month
  • Making your first £2000 per month

You can really add all sorts of achievements for any goal.  The key is to keep adding new achievements regularly.  Don’t wait for the big successes only, especially in the early days.

Being able to see all of your achievements written down in this way is incredibly powerful.

Give it a go and just see for yourself how effective this habit is.

  1. I don’t know.. I really don’t think I have achieved anything. But, managing a college library and being able to help students and them coming back and appreciating the help and service I give, sounds like an achievement because my objective is to give the service that will satisfy their academic needs and make them happy.

  2. Mercy, I think that’s a truly wonderful achievement. I’d really like you to focus on the fantastic service you give and appreciate yourself. I want to say a big thank you to you for providing this service to students, you are playing a very important role.
