Focus on keeping existing customers with you as well as attracting new clients

Keeping existing customers is always going to be better then finding new ones

I’m keeping today’s post fairly short and today’s topic may seem obvious but are you focusing on keeping existing customers as well as attracting new ones.

This applies whether you are a blogger and trying to attract readers on your blog, a shop owner trying to make sales, a service provider…

Let’s look at banks and Gas/electricity providers.  These companies are renowned for their introductory offers for new customers.  But will we stick around if they don’t look after us long term?

Probably not and the same is true for all businesses.

It’s always going to be easier keeping existing customers than finding new ones

If someone has already bought something from you, they already trust you and have committed to you and your business.   These are people you don’t need to convince that you’re worth doing business with (that’s on the basis they’ve received a positive service from you).

Keep in touch via Social Media, your email list, send them a personal message specific to them.

We all want to feel special don’t we.  These are definitely the people who as business owners, we want to make feel special.

You could set up a loyalty reward scheme for your existing customers.  If your service lends itself to this, I would highly recommend giving it a go.  My dog gets a free grooming session when he’s been 10 times, I get a to see a free film at the cinema when I’ve been 10 times… I love it.

One of the things I do is I occasionally send out special SUBSCRIBER Only information or offers.  This is my thank you to the people who have opted into my email list. I want them to feel special.

NOTE: Don’t only get in touch when you want people to buy something.

Create a good mix of keeping existing customers and attracting new

Think about how you operate in your business.  You want to aim to have a really good mix of activities geared toward keeping your existing customer and attracting new customers.  If you focus solely on one, you could end up with problems.

What do you do to encourage your existing customers to stay around?

I’d love you to leave a comment below and let me know what you do to encourage people to stay around.

A big thank you to you for coming and reading my blog.  I really appreciate you.

Wendy

Thank you to all of my blog readers.

  1. Great post as always Wendy and very informative. I used to send out special offers every couple of months to get new clients. Now my client list is full so I don’t tend to do this very often but it really did work and it was a great way of getting to work with larger companies. I would always recommend giving 100% of your time and attention to any client you are working with because when they feel appreciated and looked after, they value your services more. I love that you mentioned bank in your post as this was a real synchronicity for me today.
