Each day, more and more women around the world are choosing to ditch the old way of the 9-5 life and opt for creating a life of freedom through starting their own business where they can, not only do what they love, get paid well for doing it, but can actually create their own schedule without anyone to answer to.
Sounds great, right?
Of course it does, and it certainly is – we’re lucky to be living in a time that really allows us to do create our lives this way because it certainly wasn’t always possible, and nowadays things like social media just make it so much easier for us to connect with people from all over the world, so starting a business means we can operate fully online and not have to travel to meet clients and customers who are on the other side of the world from us.
The question you may be asking, though, is how to get started?
So, in this post, we’re going to share with you some useful and practical steps you can take for starting your own business from home.
Find your niche:
The first step in starting any business is knowing what exactly you want to be doing. This is known as your niche – the thing you want to be known for and what you’re going to be positioning yourself as an expert in. Let’s say for example, you’re a business coach just starting out. Instead of going out there and saying you coach everyone, then you need to focus on a very specific segment of the market. This not only helps you narrow your marketing messaging, but also helps you to position yourself as an authority and actually land better clients.
Choose a business model:
Your business model is simply the way in which you deliver your products and services, and this really is a good thing to know before you go ahead and start your business. So, let’s use the coaching example again. You’ll want to decide whether or not you’re going to include things like one to one coaching in your business model, if it’s going to be purely through digital courses, or even in an online group setting. Choosing your business model is something that should work for your lifestyle and there’s no right or wrong way to go about it.
Create your online presence:
Once you’ve got those two elements out of the way, now you’re going to start prepping your business to actually start getting clients. The best way to be doing this nowadays is through your own website and social media channels. So, you’ll want to get your website set up, which you can do for very little money on your own even if you have no tech skills, and then get your social media pages set up. Pick 1-3 main channels at the beginning so as not to overwhelm yourself.
Set up your systems:
Your systems are basically just formed of the processes and tasks you complete in your business everyday and that you can hopefully automate. Things like creating content and then scheduling it to save you time, creating email templates and even a digital hub or filing system for your business so that you can keep all things like client records, invoices and even tax details – the last thing you want to be getting is the hmrc tax treatment if you’ve not submitted something because you didn’t have it saved somewhere. Systems are important for the overall organization and running of your business to keep things ticking along smoothly.
Start marketing:
Marketing may not be something that comes naturally to you, but if you want to grow your business, then marketing is how you do that – people can’t hire you if they have no idea you even exist and can help them. Marketing your business can be done on places like social media, through your blog, through your newsletter, and even through attending things like networking events where you can meet potential clients face to face.
Test and evaluate:
When it comes to business, there’s really no right or wrong way of doing things, so it’s important that you keep testing and evaluating as you go so that you’re always aware of what’s working and what’s not working. Anything you see isn’t working, you can simply get rid of, and anything that is working you can continue to build on and improve.
We hope this post has helped you get clarity around the steps you can take to finally start your own business from home so that it no longer feels overwhelming and confusing.
