I wish I was more like her and other crap we say to ourselves.

I have a few friends who are always doing things for charity.  In fact I’m heading off to a cake event for charity after I’ve finished this post.  I get invited to so many every week and to be honest, most of the time I don’t go.  I have to work at some stage you know 🙂

But every time I get one of those invites from my friends who are doing so much to help.  Hey, I’m running a Marathon for…  Hey, I’m holding a coffee morning for… Hey, I’m doing the Ice bucket challenge…  I almost groan.

I get it, I really do but two things happen in my head.

Firstly it goes something like this: “Why aren’t I more giving.  Why aren’t I doing things like this to raise money for worthwhile causes? Why can’t I even be arsed to go along (sorry friends if I offend you) …. I’m so selfish.”

Secondly, I get my stingy head on.  I absolutely get why people feel so passionately about their particular charities.  I have my own that I support regularly in my own quiet way.  Just before Christmas I added up how many fund raising events I’d been invited to.  It was over 50 in one week.  Well let’s say I give just £2 at each of those which would pretty much buy me a raffle ticket I suppose.  Well that’s £100 in total.  In reality, when we go to these events I always spend more than £2.  But that’s £100 I can give to a charity that I personally support.

Okay, so that’s what goes through my head.  Now what I want to say is well done to my amazing friends who do hold these regular fundraisers.  The world needs you.  I admire you all so much.

I also want to say to those of you who are more like me that you’re special too and you are giving to the world in your own special way.  Yes, I know you are.

And I want to say to myself: You’re doing great.  You give in your own special way.

The world would not be the interesting and unique place that it is if we were all the same.

Take a look at your life and list the things you do for others and the way you make a difference to our world.  And say well done to yourself too.

Love you all.  Be unique because the world needs you just as you are.
