Whether you love or hate your work, we all need to switch off from our working day so that we can enjoy our free time and be present with the people in our life.
I’d like to share three tips that work for me.
1. Have a finishing up routine
At the end of my work day I have a finishing up routine. Now I run my own business and will often do a little work in the evening but I still follow this routine at the end of my normal working day.
- Tidy your workspace.
- Put anything in the bin that is no longer needed.
- Take a few minutes to plan your next work day.
- Review your schedule.
- Add to your achievements journal.
- Then literally say “I’m switching off from work now and focusing on…” Add things like “Family time, relaxing, enjoying my evening, spending time with friends…)
2. A couple of rounds of EFT will work wonders
A couple of rounds of EFT will really work wonders, especially if you’re working to deadlines, find your work stressful, are working on a project that really takes a lot of thinking about, are dealing with clients problems…
Watch this EFT video I made, follow along with me to start and then add your own words to make it more powerful for you.
3. Try Hypnosis Downloads
I love Hypnosis Downloads and I’ve been using them in my own life for many years. Check out this download Relax After Work. I would highly recommend this method if you are feeling particularly stressed in relation to work. (affiliate link shared with love.)
Okay so these are my top three ways to switch off. I also have another tip which is particularly helpful for parents.
Switching from work mode to mum mode
As a working mum I know that I need to make that switch from Business owner to mum. Do please let me know if you’ve ever picked your child up and had them in the car, happily telling you about their day and you’re head is still whizzing with business/work ideas, problems… Seriously, please do tell me I’m not the only mum who ever does this.
If this is a problem for you I have a tip for you. Take a couple of minutes (or longer) to focus on your child and what you love about them. This works with your spouse too.
I recommend that you have a little book in your bag, the pocket of your car… and in the book add a little photo of your child that you love and loads of notes about them, things you love. Take the time to enjoy looking through the book before your child arrives home or you pick your child up.
This will really help you make the shift and be present with them when you are together.
Finally, a few affirmations at the end of the work day can really help.
