The things you say and the stories you tell yourself/other people regularly enough can shape your reality. This isn’t some kind if woo-woo – if you say something to yourself often enough, you’ll believe it. Once you believe something to be true, the actions that you take, whatever they may be for, will support your current beliefs. You’ll be living out self-fulfilling prophecies, and it’s entirely possible that you won’t be happy with the way that things are shaping up at all!
Below, we’re going to give you 5 things you should stop saying if you want your business to succeed. As you’re at the helm of your business, what you say and what you believe really matters to your success. It isn’t just about what you do. Take a look…
‘We’ve Been Doing This Too Long To Change It’
This is a great example of a limiting belief. It’s never too late to change anything if something needs to be changed. You might think that you’ll be shooting yourself in the foot, but deep down, you’ll know if a change is for the best. Explore all of the great ways you can improve upon what you’re doing right now. Chances are, it’ll breathe new life into your business.
“This Must Be Perfect’
It’s a cliche, but there’s no such thing as perfect. More often than not, perfectionism and the idea of it will hold you back, and you won’t see anything as good enough. This can stop you from growing and progressing as a business as you try to reach a standard that just can’t be attained. Having high standards is wonderful, but being a perfectionist is not.
‘Yes’
Of course you can still utter the word ‘yes’ when you need to, but the last thing you want to do is become a ‘yes man/woman’. When you say yes to everything, you’re usually stretching yourself too thin, and you’ll become overworked and overwhelmed very quickly. You may also be cheapening the value of your time. Listen to your gut. If you feel like you should say no, then say no. You’ll do so much better for it when you take ownership of your time.

‘We/I Can’t’
‘I can’t’ can mean a lot of things. It can mean that you just don’t believe you can, or it can even mean that you don’t want to. Maybe you’re not willing to do what it really takes to get the job done. Again, this is another self fulfilling prophecy that you’d be better off avoiding. Next time you say this, pay close attention so you can figure out where it’s coming from.
‘I’ll Do It Later’
Procrastination usually comes from a place of fear, so if you don’t want to do something right now, ask yourself why. It can have terrible negative effects on your emotional state. People will put off the smallest things in business, such as responding to an email or calling the Vauxhall Van Dealer to arrange your business vehicle. In the time you have thought about the task and procrastinated, you probably could have completed it.
The hardest time is often right before you start, so whatever it is, don’t put it off. Get down to business.
