At some point in our lives, we all do jobs we hate. And there are lots of reasons to stick something out for “just a little while longer” to pay the bills.
But if your job is affecting your mental health, making your personal life difficult, or isn’t offering any room for progression, then it’s worth considering other options.
And if you’ve got valuable expertise to share, then you could be making your money (and enjoying greater freedom) as a professional blogger or freelancer.
It’s a big decision that requires proper planning. But in case you’re on the fence about whether or not it’s for you, here are a few things to consider.

Take Charge of Your Own Time
The 9-to-5 working week isn’t right for everyone. In fact, with commuting, family responsibilities, and technological advancements to consider, more and more people are taking charge of their working hours.
Working as a freelancer, you can choose to work in the early hours of the morning, late at night, or only on specific days of the week if you need to.
This gives you the freedom to do the school run, get in a gym session, or even go back to school and train in a new field – all on your own watch.
This can have huge benefits on your family life, open up new career possibilities, and work wonders for your mental health.
Taking Care of Yourself
Speaking of mental health, it’s worth taking a moment to consider the wider health benefits of going freelance.
Lots of people continue working in jobs that take a physical toll on their body. Overexertion from repetitive actions in physical jobs are the most common workplace injuries and can have a significant detriment on your long-term health.

And in fact, many of these and other workplace injuries go ignored, when they really should be dealt with. (If you think you might be a victim, get in touch with an accident at work solicitor for advice).
Similarly, if you’re experiencing chronic stress at work, it could be doing more long-term damage than you’re aware of.
If you’re spending nine hours a day in a state of high anxiety, unable to relax at home, it will affect your mental health. But stress and anxiety have also been linked to high blood pressure, heart problems, and ongoing weight issues.
Your physical and mental health is the most precious thing you have. No job is worth risking it on a long-term basis.
Freedom To Move
Are you fed up with living in the same place, stuck in the same routine?
World travel and transatlantic relocation are becoming ever more popular with young professionals. And if you’re someone who enjoys a bit of variety in life, you might enjoy the freedom to move that freelance work permits.

School locations, moving family, and housing prices are unpredictable variables which can have a huge impact on our lives. But if you have a job that you can do anywhere in the world, then it makes life a lot easier.
And just imagine – rather than spending hours of your day on cramped public transport commuting to work, you could be typing with a view of the beach, or of an exotic location you couldn’t have dreamed of visiting before.
