At work, there are a huge number of things that can hinder your motivation and make you feel like you just can’t get anything done. Once you’ve lost focus on a job or a task, it can be really difficult to get it back. Below we have a list of things that could be seriously hindering your motivation at work. Take a look and see what you can do about them:
Using Your Phone
Constantly using your phone can mean getting distracted by notifications, messages, and calls. You may or may not have a strict no phones policy in your office, but whatever the policy is, you should make an effort to leave your phone in a draw until break time. It’s too easy to get attached to that little screen and scroll without realizing that a whole hour has passed by!
Checking Social Media And Emails Too Often
Checking social media and your emails can often be an important part of a job, however, checking them early in the morning can clog up your brain before you’ve got any real work done. Getting some important things done before you check them will help you to stay focused. Have set times for looking!
An Unsafe Workplace
Working in an unsafe workplace is something that can hinder your motivation and happiness, so have a conversation with your boss sooner rather than later to see what they can do about it. If they don’t do anything about it, they may be getting a phone call from the Law Offices of George Salinas before they know it, as it won’t be long before somebody gets hurt and they are liable for it.
A Boring Workplace
Working in an uninspiring workplace can also be a problem. See if you can jazz up your workspace with things like plants and pictures so you can stay motivated.
Poor Management
Poor management can be found all over the place. If management doesn’t make an effort to make you feel valued, and do simple things like learn your name, then make sure you say something. Giving feedback on this is imperative; one of the biggest causes of employee demotivation is feeling like they aren’t valued at work.
Not Being Allowed To Be Flexible
Sometimes, you may need time off for an appointment, or it may make more sense for you to do some work at home instead. Being allowed that time to be flexible can make all the difference and help people to feel more secure and happy at work. Have a chat with your boss if this is something that you think could be helpful.
Conflict
Conflict in the workplace should be stopped as soon as possible. Again, this is something you’ll need to speak to your boss about before it gets out of hand.
Too Little/Too Much Work
Without enough work to challenge you, you may find yourself getting distracted. With too much, you’re going to put it off and struggle. Make sure you talk to your boss about the work you have and what you think could be done.
