“Fake it until you make it” is a saying that could be applied to all startup businesses. For a startup is to succeed it needs to be making the right impression from day one. The business world is an unforgiving one and we don’t want to be sending out the wrong impression. One of your monthly business goals should be how to make your make your business look professional, now! We need to fake it
How To Fake It
Logo
Create a unique logo. This shows that you have thought about your brand and image. You don’t need to pay someone to make a logo for you.. You could make a logo on Canva. It’s very easy software to use and you can create a logo really easily.
Get A Website
Build your own website. You can do this yourself and you don’t need to spend a fortune. Use WordPress for your site and then find a hosting company. Alternatively, you could hire a professional to build your website for you and they will be able to make sure that it is user friendly. Your website can even be designed in a way that generates sales. Also, make sure that all of the essential information is on your website. You need your contact information to be displayed clearly. You might also want to integrate a contact us form too.
Get Social
Get yourself on social media and start interacting with other users. You could even run a social media campaign to help get your brand out there. You don’t need to spend lots of money to run a successful campaign on social media.
Business Cards
We might be in the digital age but we still need business cards. You will need a professional looking card to hand out in meetings and when you are networking. You should make sure that your card has your logo on it, website address, email and any other information that you think is relevant. However, remember that less is more. You don’t want to be cramming too much information onto that card. Avoid giving yourself a title on your business card. At the moment you are probably a one person operation, you don’t need to use titles until your business really grows.
Office Space
Get a good central business address. You are not going to impress anyone if you are running your office space out of your mum and dad’s spare bedroom. Hire some office space. You want that office space to look impressive from the outside. You do not want to be in a building that’s about to be torn down, that wouldn’t send the right impression to potential clients. Instead, find a well-maintained building. You don’t want a building that has peeling paint, you want a building that has commercial glazing and looks neat. You also want the sidewalk outside of your office to look tidy. Your office should also be in a good neighborhood.
A virtual office space is a good alternative if you can’t afford an actual office space. You could also get a PO box from your local UPS store.
You might not quite be the successful business of your dreams, but no one else needs to know that. Fake it until you make it!
