Businesses Changing Road Travel And Covid-19

The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting all industries in ways that none of us have ever experienced before, not least haulage companies.

The road traffic may have picked up a little since restrictions have been lifted since the start of lockdown, but truck drivers have still very much been keeping on the road to ensure that food supplies and equipment are moved up and down the country.

HGV drivers are classed as key workers, delivering essential supplies day and night, yet they often don’t get the recognition that they deserve.

Due to the nature of these unprecedented times, the transportation industry is facing extreme challenges. There are increasing supply chain disruptions and the need for nationwide emergency deliveries are causing fleet managers, dispatchers and drivers to work longer hours.

There has been a huge impact on different sectors of the haulage industry and whereas food deliveries are at an all time high, the need for supplies to pubs and restaurants has dried up considerably – not surprisingly due to the lockdown.

As a result, drivers are struggling to protect their health while out on the road and it’s even more paramount for drivers to have the right insurance protection.

The upside to this is falling truck insurance premiums, due to reduced vehicle usage and less accidents as a result – making it a good time to make a truck insurance comparison.  As more and more people have been working from home and have recognised that their work can be carried out remotely, the roads for the foreseeable are a different place to travel on.
