So, you love cars? Even before you got your licence, you’d stand by the side of the road, dreaming of owning those exceptional vehicles. Now you drive, you always have one eye on your next motor. Your coffee table is forever stacked with car magazines (much to your family’s despair), and an evening drive is your chosen way to relax.
What if we were to tell you that you could use that car craze to fuel your next career? In fact, nothing’s better than making a career out of your passions. And, if you take this tack during your next career transition, it could well be your last.
But, as much as you love cars, you might never have thought about going pro before. So, what exactly does a career in cars look like? To give you some idea, we’re going to look at a few of the options open to you.
Mechanic
Becoming a mechanic is probably the most obvious choice. With car repair garages across the country, you certainly shouldn’t struggle to find work. There is a small snag that many garage owners do require experience. But, you should already have a fair amount of know-how. Even if that in itself isn’t enough to bag you a position, you’ll be able to fly through a mechanic’s course. Then, you’d just need to use that knowledge to impress the right people. Before you know, you could spend your days wearing greasy overalls and sticking your head in car engines.
Roadside recovery
If you don’t fancy being cooped up all day, why not take those repair skills on the road? You could either do this through an existing company or branch out and start something of your own. You would, of course, need the right tools for the job, including a crane truck with which to tow customer’s cars. Lucky for you, securing one of these is as easy as heading to the ‘contact us’ section of a company like Service Trucks International, and letting them know what you need. You’ll also want to work on building your tool supply with everything from car batteries to spare wheels. The more you have in your van, the more chance you have of impressing. And, if you do that, you should have no trouble making this work.
Car reviewer
If you don’t fancy getting your hands dirty, you could give car journalism a go. There are a whole host of auto blogs just waiting for articles from car lovers like you. All you need is a way with words and a decent grasp on what’s happening in the automotive industry. You’ll need to keep on top of new releases and write informative articles detailing everything from specs to industry comparisons. And, whatever you do, make sure that you proofread all your articles before sending them off. You never know; impressing the right people here could lead to your test drive the newest releases on the market. It really doesn’t get better than that.
