Spring clean your life as well as your home

I love Spring.  It’s a time for new beginnings, new life… Traditionally many people Spring clean their homes to clear away the cobwebs and freshen up their living space for the warmer months.

But what about giving your life a Spring clean too, are you ready to do that and really get rid of those cobwebs that are keeping you stuck.

Here are 5 ways to Spring clean your life

1. Spring clean you inbox and social media accounts

If you’re anything like me, you subscribe to loads of mailing lists.  I’m a sucker for a free gift, although I am getting better with this.

Go through your inbox and unsubscribe (don’t just delete) everything that is not adding massive value to your life. My advice is to keep only the ones you absolutely love to read or the ones that are helping you achieve your specific goals.

For example: If you are currently trying to learn how to publish a book, make that your priority goal and unsubscribe to everything that doesn’t help you achieve that goal.

For your social media clean up, pick one social media site at a time, clean it up and move on.

  • Delete friends you no longer wish to be in contact with or people you’ve friended and don’t even know, who add no value to your life.
  • Clear up your Pinterest boards.
  • Merge multiple facebook pages.
  • Close groups that are not productive.
  • Leave groups you are no longer interested in.
  • Create a list of people you’re really interested in on twitter, so that you don’t need to be scanning for ages through millions of tweets.

2. Spring clean your social life and friends

Honestly we all change over the years and whilst some friendships will always stand the test of time, others really don’t.  Are there some friends who are dragging you down, don’t fit your lifestyle now or you’ve simply not got much in common with anymore.  Let them go for your own good and theirs.

Is your social life something you thoroughly enjoy or is it something that has become a habit?  If you’re not loving it, maybe you need to put it in the trash and start a new habit.

3. Spring clean your business/career/education

Is something not working for you?  Then it’s time to get rid of it. Just because it worked for you once upon a time, doesn’t mean it will forever.

If you’re in business, look at things like…

  • The products and services you offer
  • The way you spend your time
  • Your business contacts/service providers
  • Your systems

If your career is feeling a bit stale, try to…

  • Change career altogether
  • Look at a way to breathe new life, new excitement into your existing career.
  • Look at the way you spend your time.
  • Speak to your boss and tell him/her what you want to achieve -Ask for advice.

If you are in education or would like to be…

  • Spring clean your systems (this can include your bag, your desk…)
  • Your study style.
  • The way you spend your time.

You’ll notice that the way you spend your time features in every area.  A good post to read about this is  How are you spending your time?

4. Spring clean your morning and bedtime routine

I love the lighter days.  I’m one of those people who hates getting out of bed when it’s cold and dark outside.  So Spring is a good time to sort out your morning routine and start the day super positive.  And make sure you’re getting plenty of sleep.

Try these tips:

  • Allow yourself plenty of time in the morning.  Get up slightly earlier to ensure you have plenty of time.
  • Enjoy a nice relaxed breakfast.
  • Drink a glass of water when you first get up.
  • Add a little exercise.
  • Take a cold shower.  Many people swear by this, my son included, but I haven’t yet mastered it.
  • Get 8 hours sleep (or at least be in bed going to sleep for 8 hours) as many nights as possible.
  • Go to bed at the same time each night and follow the same routine.

5. Spring clean your eating habits and activity levels

It’s time to lighten up your meals, boost your activity levels and energy levels.

  • Try swapping heavy winter meals for lighter salads
  • Go for walks in the fresh air
  • Open the doors and dance
  • Play with the kids outdoors
