Okay before you all go screaming off this post, stick with me for just a little longer. I promise I’m not against social media, in fact, the opposite is true. I love social media. I just want you to be aware of how much time in reality you do spend on it and I’ve got a tip for you if you do want to spend less time on social media.
How Many Hours?
According to this post on independent.co.uk, Britons spend 62 million hours on social media every day. That’s an average of 1 hour per day.
Now I know that I’d probably top that in a day most days (although not every day) but then I’m using it for business purposes as well and to connect with friends and family.
Go ahead and let me know how much time you think you spend on social media in a day.

My guess is that many of us have no idea how long we spend on social media each day.
Exercise
Starting now and for the next 24 hours, write down how much time you spend on social media. Then in the comments below I want you to simply type Surprised or Not surprised. Of course, you can share your findings as well if you like.
My guess is that there’ll be quite a few of us typing surprised. I haven’t done this exercise for a while so I’m going to be doing it with you and sharing my findings too.
What if you’re spending too much time on social media?
If you feel you want to spend less time on social media give yourself set times when you can go on them and stick with it for a week. That’s all I’m asking you to commit to, just a week and see how much time you gain.
Try this…
If your 24-hour social media monitoring finds that you spend an average of 1 hour a day on your favourite social media sites, give yourself 2 set times throughout the day allowing 15-20 minutes each sitting. This is going to save you between 20 and 30 minutes a day. That’s at least 2 hours 20 minutes a week saved. Imagine what else you can do with that time.
Now, of course, if you have plenty of time and you feel like spending an hour browsing Pinterest, go right ahead. If you feel like you never have enough time, try cutting back.
