For some companies, staff turnover can be big and a sign that employees aren’t happy working for you as a company.

This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s down to you as a person, it could be a few small things that when changed can increase morale, reduce staff turnover and also increase your revenue.

The easiest way to find out what your staff really think is to send an email around and ask them for some feedback anonymously.

This way you can pinpoint the things to improve at work.  Below are four things to consider if your staff turnover is high.

Working Conditions

What is your office like? Do you look around and find that it’s dark or dingy, and not very motivational?

This doesn’t mean moving your office to a different location. It could be that you simply need to look at your office branding and make it a more positive space.

Depending on your budget you could make some big changes and get a company in, alternatively, you could look at doing a few smaller things that have a big impact.

How Much Do You Pay

We are not saying you need to increase all your staff’s salaries, but it may be beneficial to do a pay review to check others are getting paid what they deserve.

Why not take a look into the national average for a person in a certain position at your company and compare the costs to what you pay them.

It could be that by moving on they earn more money which is why they are not sticking around.

If you haven’t been giving a lot of pay rises recently, it could be that as time has gone by but the cost of people in the job has gone up.

Career Progression

What structure is your company based on? When people are working for you, do they have much career progression?

If you don’t give people many promotional opportunities, people could leave to develop their career and to aim for higher positions.

It may be that you cannot afford to open up new positions, but if you can, try and change the structure of your company so that employees can gain more responsibility and work their way up to a higher position.

Company Benefits

What benefits do you have to work for you? Do you have quarterly bonuses when targets are hit? Do you help develop staff by offering online courses for them to improve?

Or do you actively try and make your place a great place to work? It’s all these things that employees look at when deciding to work for you as well as deciding when to leave.

If another company looks after their staff in a way you don’t it could be tempting for an employee to move over to them.

Sometimes it’s the small things that can make a difference, like letting a family person leave early to see their kids, or calling in staff members at random to tell them they are doing a great job.
