I’d love to say I’m out there supporting my local shops when I buy my groceries and I do support the local butcher and fruit and veg shops but when it comes to the rest of my weekly shopping I order it all online on a Sunday evening to be delivered on a Tuesday morning.
Setting up your online shopping
Okay, so I’ll be honest I put off online grocery shopping for ages. I’d had a look at the process and it seemed hard work. But once I took the plunge I couldn’t believe how easy it is. The first order will take longer to set up but after that it’s a doddle and a weeks shop takes me about 5-10 minutes now unless I want to browse around.
Use favourites
Now I use Tesco, so I’m not 100% sure how other companies operate but I think they’re all pretty much the same. Each week your favourites or usual items will be saved for you to refer to each week. If you’re anything like me then your weekly shop will be pretty much the same each week with a few exceptions. Over the course of a few weeks pretty much everything you buy on a normal shop will be in your saved list. So it’s the equivalent of having a supermarket that only sells the items you buy. It’s brilliant. No distractions and it’s all so quick and easy.
Save time and money
Since I started online shopping I have saved a considerable amount of money and time. I’m not tempted to buy things just because they look yummy in the shop. I stick to my list much better. I find it much easier to plan my meals.
I order on a Sunday evening, but I can add to my shopping right up until Monday evening for delivery on Tuesday morning.
No queuing and no kids
Two things that are sure to send me crazy. I hate queuing and as much as I love my son, shopping with him is a nightmare. I always get home without half of the things I wanted and a load of things I had no intention of buying.
Taking both of these things out of the equation saves time and my sanity.
And just to finish off, the delivery arrives at my door. They’ll even bring it straight to your kitchen if you want. It takes me just a few minutes to have everything away.
So you’re saving time getting to the supermarket, queuing and unpacking.

I fully agree with you about online shopping, Wendy, and like you I support my local shops as much as possible (unfortunately where I live, they are no so up on vegan or vegetarian stuff, so that makes it difficult!)
I am also a long term advocate for meal planning so it is so simple and easy to do and I can prep my list for next week while I am at it which is fab! It definitely saves a lot of time (more time now available for fun things!) and a lot less stress.
Thanks for your comment Sarah. I’ve got a meal planning tip coming up as this is certainly something I advise.
I have used online grocery shopping but prefer mooching around the shelves.
A useful tip for busy people 😉
I’ve fallen in love with online grocery shopping lately for the sheer convenience of it. I do like to still browse the aisles myself whenever I have time:-)
Thanks for commenting Amanda. It saves me so much time.
When I get the chance to go by myself and have a good browse around I love it. During my normal week though this would be eating into my work time or family time, so this works best for me.
Loved your post Wendy and I also agree 100%. I really miss online grocery shopping, it used to be a great time saver for me too. When I did a four hour round trip commute every day and lived on the top floor of an ancient building, with no lift, I almost kissed the lovely Tesco man who brought all those bags right into my kitchen (I did give him a tip for all his hard work).
No such thing here in Iowa.
I’m not sure if I’d be keen on someone picking out my fresh produce for me. For staples I think it’s a great idea. I’m guessing online shopping also helps reduce impulse buying as well.
Looking forward to the meal planning post.
I don’t have many free hours between my job and trying to get my film business going full time so planning meals would be great for me!
I already use the Internet to shop for appliances and electronics . First , we visit the physical store, I research what I want , and after that, I search on the internet. On the internet there is less tax burden and logistics. Thus , the products are cheaper. Big hug to you
Thanks for the hug Katia. Yes it certainly is a great way to save money.
Thanks for your comment Kevin. I’ll get on with the meal planning tip asap.
I know exactly what you mean about nearly kissing the delivery person. It just makes life so much easier.
