Moving to the cloud won’t be something you can do overnight, chances are you have years worth of finance and tax records and other kinds of paperwork that you need to keep hold of. So while you’re still keeping or using some paper documents, have the right systems in place to store them. Invest in some shelving kits for the home office, or a filing cabinet depending on your preference and the kinds of things you’re storing. That way, when you know you need something you know exactly where to go to find it which can reduce stress.
Consider a minimalist decor scheme
When you run a business, your home office is somewhere that you’ll be spending a lot of time- so you want it to be comfy, cosy and pleasant. However, you should be careful of how you decorate in here, keeping it minimal can help with productivity. It’s not to say it needs to look cold and corporate, definitely bring in some personal touches and creature comforts. But keep it minimal to avoid distraction, when you set foot into this room you want to get into a work frame of mind. Paint the walls a light, neutral colour, add in some plants to decorate since they add colour and texture without looking fussy and research shows they actually boost productivity while you’re working.
Regularly clean and declutter
There’s a lot going on in the home office, to keep it organised it’s crucial that you’re regularly cleaning and decluttering. Throw away things you don’t need, file and store away what you do. Regularly dust, since computers and other electronics tend to attract it and you don’t want to be sitting in a dusty, toxic environment. Open the windows regularly and keep your workspace clean and tidy. You’ll find that you’re much happier and more productive.
