There’s a lot to be said about becoming an entrepreneur, ranging from all the technical stuff about just how you should undertake the process, to the more abstract stuff, such as how you should properly align what it is you’re doing with your values.
Quite often, you’ll read about the difficulties of being an entrepreneur: inevitable setbacks, time management issues, and plenty more.
Those difficulties are, of course, real. But, for all that, becoming an entrepreneur can be an immensely positive thing.
Here are a few reasons to become an entrepreneur.
- Because you never know what you can achieve until you make an earnest effort
Over the course of day-to-day life, it’s normal for us to have vague thoughts of trying out ambitious things, only to talk ourselves down, and convince ourselves that actually, we’d probably fail after all.
The thing is, you simply never know what you can achieve unless you make a clear and honest effort – even if you’ve got data to refer to, and even if you feel quite certain deep down about your prospects.
Becoming an entrepreneur is an excellent way of moving from the realm of theory to the realm of action. You will confront things directly, and will expand your sense of what’s possible.
Certainly, any given business venture of yours may fail. But you will likely still learn that you have a lot more potential than you previously thought – and this realisation can carry you forward to your next entrepreneurial endeavour.
Because you will learn a lot, and your skillset and effectiveness will increase dramatically
There’s a view that’s shared by perhaps the majority of people, that in order to be successful, you need to be extremely specialised and focused on one particular field or subject area.
In fact, though, there are plenty of good examples out there of how, sometimes, having a range of skills, and a variety of different insights, is a much surer path to success than trying to be the greatest specialist in town.
When you become an entrepreneur, you can be certain that you will learn a lot, and your skillset and effectiveness in different domains will increase dramatically.
Because motivation and enthusiasm are much easier to come by when you are passionate about the project you’re working on
It’s always good to feel enthusiastic and motivated about what you have to do on any given day. It definitely makes it easy to get out of bed, and it gives you a much greater sense of emotional well-being, too.
When you are an entrepreneur, you’re much more likely to feel that level of motivation and enthusiasm, on a regular basis. Because you will be working on a project that you are passionate about, and you will be working for yourself, according to your own standards and ideas.
Entrepreneurs are famous for working hard, and putting in long hours. At first glance, that may seem exclusively negative. But, wouldn’t you work harder, for longer, if you were working on something you really liked?
